[It's hard to get a read for why Guy is asking again without knowing which set of memories he has this time -- either way, it would make sense for him to ask for clarification seeing as Ion didn't mention Asch. Though the reason would be pretty different...]
...yes, as far as I know. Though with all the new arrivals in the village today, it's possible that may not be the case anymore. You're not the first old friend I've run into today.
That's true. It's easy to lose people in a crowd like this. [Guy sighs and scrubs a hand through his hair before offering Ion a smile again.] Ah, but I'm glad I didn't lose you in it. It's really good to see you again.
Uh- no, not exactly- I mean, they're more monster than ghost. We just call them ghost-type monsters back home because they're- um, they can go invisible. Or incorporeal. Or they just look like creepy ghosts, but they're not actually ghosts.
Liquid- oh man. I don't want to think about the kind of body you'd need to eat that. That stuff goes in really old batteries, I think.
[Thankfully Guy hadn't interrupted Zack or anything- although if he had, Zack would happily have made some time for an old friend. Today is a day for catching up with a whole lot of familiar faces.]
Well, at least it doesn't glow, right? [Just playin'. Guy rests a hand easily on the hilt of his sword as he keeps pace with Zack's long strides. It's kind of interesting to watch him walk; he swaggers a little bit, but Guy doesn't think it's on purpose. It's so different from Guy's own easy, straight-line clipped gait, like they're balanced differently.
Though considering that sword on his back...] You settled in yet? Housing is kind of crazy right now, with everyone all showing up at once.
[Zack laughs at the quip, light and easy; he's certainly heard worse comments about glowing in relation to him in the past, and he knows better than to assume anything was meant by it, coming from Guy.]
I've got a place already, yeah. Just an apartment for now- somebody else is living in my old house, now, so I'll have to decide later if I want to find another one or not. How about you?
I am like the wandering warriors of old. I go where I am needed. [aka he doesn't have a place yet] It is really strange seeing people living in my old house though. I mean, I feel like I was just here a few days ago but all my stuff is gone.
Obviously the only solution is to barge in, put your feet up on the table, and grill them on whether or not they're taking good care of the place. Only the best for my home!
[He's slightly less nostalgic, having been gone for the better part of a year, but he'd also spent enough years in his house to miss it a little.]
Like marrying off a child! I agree completely. I mean, my coffee maker could still be there and everything. How am I supposed to live without that, I modified it and everything! [except he mostly prefers tea but look he worked on that ok]
I wonder what they do with our stuff when we get sent back home. I mean, it vanishes, right? Maybe they have massive bazaar sales with all our things.
Oh god, you're gonna make me cry. I had the most amazing sword collection... the thought of all those awesome blades piled up in someone's garage sale is tragic. As if taking my Buster isn't enough!
[...oh goooooood they have Masutaiki, don't they... that one is irreplaceable. What a depressing thought.]
Ahh, sorry, sorry. [Guy pats Zack sympathetically on the back.] Look, apparently the Malnosso have really been working on their PR. Why not just ask them for your swords back? They might still have them, and might be willing to return them as a gesture of good will.
...Not sure I'd bet much gil on getting anything out of them, although some people have said they're a lot nicer than they used to be. Did you know they don't even call themselves that now?
Mm, yes. As far as I know, Arietta is the only enemy from our past who is present in this place, and she's behaved herself thus far. Not even Asch is here anymore... and thankfully, there's been no sign of a certain gaudy general. But then, in a place like this, new arrivals can never be predicted.
[No Asch, huh? And no Dist. Yeah, not gonna...Guy doesn't remember if Jade knew about Guy being on sort-of good terms with Dist, but if he doesn't Guy's not gonna remind him.] That's true. We should be prepared for everything. Kind of hard, with all of us remembering things differently and being stretched out, but I guess if we can collect everyone again in Auldrant we can easily do it here, if we have to.
[Jade's never seen Dist in Luceti. But it's been a bizarre enough experience to meet people who were actually fond of him. To face the unsettling concept that even Dist the Runny could be capable of change...]
No matter how much our memories of this place my diverge, we all still have common ground from home. I don't doubt our abilities to come together, discounting any God Generals at the very least. After all, we're all allies here. [Friends.]
Why, even Professor Nebilim has made an appearance. [He tries to make it sound as off-handed as possible. He doesn't want to give away anything just yet if Guy doesn't already know.]
I saw that. [The Professor, that is. And she's the original, not the crazed, bloodthirsty, overpowered replica. Hopefully that didn't rattle Jade too badly, not that Guy would even be able to tell.] If this place really is different and more at peace...would it be so bad if they stayed here? [Instead of being returned to being dead, that is.]
That's a question that not even I can have a clear answer regarding. [If they could gain control over who comes and who goes from this world, why can't this place specifically become a place where the dead can live our their lives again? It's troubling at the same time, though, because it feels similar to the thought processes that led him to create fomicry in the first place.
He glances towards Guy and shifts a finger towards his classes.]
And, I feel that the bigger question would truly be... 'Whose place should it be to make such a decision'?
Theirs, obviously. [...except-] ...is what I'd say if it was that simple. It's nice to talk about people having autonomy over their lives, but...I think if it were me and Luke and Luke said he'd rather just move on...
Luke is different. [He chimes as he takes a drink.]
If he were to choose that, then he clearly hasn't thought the matter through well enough. Should the time truly come, we'll have to arrange a group discussion with him. [Luke's league of designated parents must advise him.]
[Guy smiles faintly. Thanks, Jade.] Glad you agree. I'm kind of afraid he'll assume something else crazy too, like he needs to go for Asch's sake. With the whole thing about an original dying so long as the replica exists?
